Jack Murphy, who designed the ‘Save the Rainforest’ exhibition’s trademark poster and also RAA’s logo, describes how his passion for art developed:
“Since a young age, I have always found myself fascinated by art. My passion for drawing began with watching cartoons and being inspired to draw my own characters and create my own comic scenes. As I grew older, my passion for drawing increased, as I started to learn new crafts and art styles and different ways of creating art with more than just a pencil.”
Whilst studying graphic design at University, Jack learnt a lot about himself as a designer, enquiring new skills and developing his own unique style. Utilising a variety of creative software allowed him to expand his passion for the subject and reach new levels of achievement and professionalism.
Judy met Jack in 2019. This fortuitous meeting led to Jack designing the splendid promotional poster for the first ‘Save the Rainforest’ exhibition and – more recently – RAA’s logo.
“I remember the first time I met Judy and how nice it was to meet someone who was so dedicated to her cause – her mission to help save the rainforest. It was nice to know there were people close to home who really wanted to spread the message and to try to help. After talking to Judy, I offered to help advertise her upcoming exhibition, which was to be known as the ‘Save the Rainforest’ exhibition. This was something I felt proud to work on, as I knew I was designing for an important cause.”
The promotional poster Jack created for the first ‘Save the Rainforest’ exhibition, in 2019, was a big success and remains a very popular and eye-catching feature of the current exhibition.
“As a designer, I was very proud of my work. I felt that the poster hit all the right notes and was neither too ‘over the top’ nor so subtle that people wouldn’t notice it. I wanted the poster to have a good vibrant colour combination, and nice captivating illustrations and typography, with an all-round eye catchy finish that would appeal to multiple age groups to draw in a bigger audience.”
